HARRIET SLATER

IS RIDING HIGH(LANDS)…

Getting into community theatre at six years of age, Harriet Slater always knew she wanted to be an actor. Now, at 29, she has appeared in Pennyworth and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. This year started handsomely with Belgravia: The Next Chapter, she has horror movies Tarot and True Haunting due for release, and she’s currently shooting Outlander prequel series Blood of My Blood in rugged Scotland.

Outlander is a turbulently romantic show. Is Blood of My Blood similar in tone?

Yeah, mostly. It’s created by the same team and we’re filming in the same place. At its heart, it’s the love story of Jamie’s parents in 1700s Scotland, and also Claire’s parents in World War One. The fans have been so supportive. People came pouring in with really lovely, welcoming messages.

You’re no stranger to operating in established IP – you’ve done Pennyworth and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny…

They’re worlds that people are very invested in. Dial of Destiny was madness. I had the tiniest part in that [playing New York citizen Fran]. It was literally a one-line thing. But oh my God, what an amazing franchise and world to be a part of!

What’s the deal with Tarot?

I play Hayley. She and a group of friends are staying in a big old Airbnb. They go down into the basement in search of booze and come across this deck of tarot cards. My character is big into tarot, so she sits down and does everyone’s readings. And then, lo and behold, people start dying in ways that are connected to the readings.

You’re in another horror, too – True Haunting. Wasn’t it exhausting to act terrified for weeks on end?

Yeah, 100 per cent! You’re at level 10 quite a lot of the time. On True Haunting, I had three solid days of basically just crying and screaming. But it’s also cathartic, because how often do you actually get to just let everything out?

TAROT IS IN CINEMAS ON 3 MAY. TRUE HAUNTING IS TBC. BLOOD OF MY BLOOD IS 2025 TBC.
