FURIOSA: AMAD MAX SAGA Anya Taylor-Joy takes the wheel for the Fury Road prequel.

Set 45 years after the collapse (making Max how old?!), Furiosa will span 15 years of the future Imperator’s life, starting with her abduction from the Green Place of Many Mothers. It’s ‘a story of grit, survival and impossible hope’, according to Anya Taylor-Joy.

A very different-looking Chris Hemsworth plays the warlord Dementus, leader of the Biker Horde that picks up Furiosa en route to Immortan Joe’s Citadel, where the two tyrants will battle for supremacy. ‘He’s a violent, insane, brutal person,’ says Hemsworth. No surprise there…

Not much is known about this character, played by Tom Burke (who replaced Yahya Abdul-Mateen II before filming), though it’s possible he’s an Imperator. Furiosa is seen wearing a suspiciously similar leather jacket later in the trailer – bad news for Burke’s survival chances.

After being teased in Fury Road, Gas Town and the Bullet Farm will feature in Furiosa. In the George Miller-penned comics, Gas Town has a gladiatorial arena dubbed ‘Thunderdome Plus’ – could Miller be returning to a divisive chapter in Mad Max history?

It wouldn’t be a Mad Max movie without outrageous vehicles, including Dementus’ motorbike-drawn chariot, his enormous monster truck and a suitably shiny chrome tanker. The Fucacima kamakrazee War Boys are back as well, ready to ride eternal for Immortan Joe.

Furiosa’s mechanical arm is mysteriously absent from the trailer, until the final moments, practically guaranteeing that we’ll find out how she loses a limb. In this shot her look is straight out of Fury Road, including short, but seemingly not shaved, hair. Mediocre…
