Time for another hairy adventure…
KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
DIRECTOR WES BALL
STARRING OWEN TEAGUE, FREYA ALLAN, WILLIAM H. MACY, KEVIN DURAND, DICHEN LACHMAN
ETA 24 MAY
From what I’ve heard and what I’ve seen… it’s gonna blow people’s minds,’ said Andy Serkis of this continuation of the Apes trilogy in which he starred as Caesar. And while Serkis isn’t returning in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which is set several generations in the future, he’s been advising the star of the show, Owen Teague. ‘I remember Andy being like, “You get used to it and you stop worrying about it after a week”,’ said Teague of sporting a motion-capture suit with a camera strapped to his head. ‘And he was absolutely right.’
Directed by Wes Ball (the Maze Runner trilogy), Kingdom finds the apes the dominant species and now speaking English more fluently than the Total Film team. Humans live in the shadows. But trouble is coming – a tyrannical ape leader is rousing his hairy minions into a frenzy. Meanwhile, Teague’s young ape, Cornelius, must undertake a perilous journey that will make him question all that he knows.
It’s been seven years since the Apes Trilogy concluded, so fans will approve of Disney, which have since acquired Fox, relaunching the series. And if Disney’s business model with Star Wars is anything to go by, there will be plenty more to come. As Caesar says, ‘Apes together strong!’
MUST-SEE, BECAUSE
We all need to go ape sometimes, as 74M views of the trailer in the first 24 hours showed.
MUST-SEE, BECAUSE
Worm-riding desert warfare on a galactic scale.
After impressing as Malcolm Xin One Night in Miami, Kingsley Ben-Adir will inhabit another legend in biopic BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE (14 February)… Writer/director Parker Finn was screaming laughter all the way to the bank with Smile. Let’s hope this sequel gives him reason to SMILE 2 (18 October).
