NIGHT AFTER NIGHT
RRP £TBC VARIOUS RETAILERS
It’s a good season for James Newton Howard, who’s also revisiting the Hunger Games saga. Let it Snow, indeed, but leave stocking space for this lovely, wintry thing: an album of piano-centred rerecordings from Howard’s M. Night Shyamalan scores, with soloists including Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Besides the classics (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable), fine cues for misfires (Lady in the Water) affirm Howard’s delicate alchemy.

WONKA
RRP £TBC VARIOUS RETAILERS
‘Let’s go see a movie show,’ sang The Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon in a tribute to Euro-cinema back in 1994. Elsewhere, Hannon’s screen love has sired songs for Gangster No. 1, Doctor Who, Hitchhiker’s Guide…, Lola and more. A land of pure imagination now beckons as he reunites with his old composer pal Joby Talbot for Paul King’s golden ticket: sugar rush incoming.
THE MARVELS
RRP £TBC VARIOUS RETAILERS
‘Musically gymnastic’ is how Emmy-winning composer Laura Karpman describes herself. Evidence includes the glorious sweep of her variably infectious, dramatic scores for Ms. Marvel, What If…? and Lovecraft Country, a range she’ll flex on the big screen for the MCU’s bauble-bright 33rd release. If the BBC Proms’ preview of team cue Higher. Further. Faster. Together. is any indication, epic results await.
KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON
RRP £TBC VARIOUS RETAILERS
From The Last Waltz on, Martin Scorsese and The Band’s Robbie Robertson forged a fertile union. Before Robertson died this year, he left us with one more rich, rootsy score. Between percussive pulses and banjo twang, mournful voices and sorrowful flute, the Americana veteran draws on personal ancestry and history to craft music of profound feeling and authenticity: it’s one for the ages.
WISH
RRP £TBC VARIOUS RETAILERS
What are Disney wishing for? Another Bruno-sized smash, you suspect, from the Mouse House’s – ahem – star vehicle. While Dave Metzger scores, the seven songs come from feted singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and producer Benjamin Rice. Expected inclusions range from Ariana DeBose belters to Chris Pine laments, alongside the requisite funny animals song that we’ll surely be hearing quite a lot of.
